ADDICTION RECOVERY SERVICES
Hello friends:
In my recent discussions with the regional coordinator over Addiction &
Recovery Services with the church, I asked about prevention for pornography
and other addictions. The coordinator shared with me the data that shows a
direct link between family dinners and avoiding addictions of all types.
The link is strong. Those who regularly have family mealtime together avoid
many of the challenges of addiction. I was amazed at this information. I
had planned to make this part of our discussions in Ward Conferences in
2018.
Recently, a new family moved into my home ward. Rebekah Lawes graduate
studies have been centered on family mealtimes and how to make them more
meaningful, especially with a focus on families with teens. Sister Lawes is
willing to share her knowledge. She had planned to give a presentation just
to Barber Valley ward. I have asked and gotten approval to expand this to
the entire stake. It will be held on Tuesday, November 14th from
6:30-8:30pm at the Warm Springs building chapel. This invitation is open to
friends and neighbors. All are welcome. Dress how you and any potential
guests may be most comfortable. The Stake Relief Society will provide
simple refreshments after the workshop.
